Oliv: A Swedish Revolution in Olive Oil Packaging

Victor Weiss's Award-Winning Design for Oliv, a Pioneering Swedish Olive Oil Brand

The Oliv brand is a pioneer in growing Frantoio trees in Sweden, a feat considered impossible due to the country's cold weather. This unique aspect of the brand is reflected in the packaging design, which incorporates the Swedish flag, aiming to inspire national pride and spark international curiosity.

Weiss's design is a blend of quality, class, and modernity. The primary product bottle is made of glossy Borosilicate glass, which beautifully reflects light and showcases the vibrant color of the olive oil. The secondary product bottle, which contains a specialty oil with peppery notes, features a clean, hand-printed matte label with a blue textured foil logo.

The packaging also includes an all-black box with a matte logo, filled with finely shredded timber made of fragrant hinoki wood. The choice of glass was a significant challenge in the design process, as it needed to be elegant, sustainable, and capable of preserving the product's quality. However, Weiss and his team were able to create a patented combination of Borosilicate glass and specific ingredients, resulting in a unique semi-clear glass that maintains the visibility and quality of the oil.

The Oliv project, which began in May 2020 and was completed in November 2020, is a testament to the innovative spirit of both the brand and the designer. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the brand launch is expected in early 2023, promising to bring a new level of elegance and quality to the olive oil market.
